March 17, 2015 - Living Under Senseless Laws?

ACIM Workbook Lesson #76
“I am under no laws but God’s.”

Just where do we find these laws of God which we are under? Certainly they’re not in any book which has been written, even though these texts may be referred to as the word of God. I’m not trying to say that there isn’t some wonderful advice in these books. I particularly like Jesus’s words concerning commandments: love your neighbor as yourself and God above all else. How many wars could have been avoided by the simple realization that we are united in the Love which is God! Does it matter what historians or tyrants or mystical seers have dictated? Perhaps the world is not ready to live by the divine edict which can only be known within our consciousness. But I think we are.

Mary Baker Eddy quote:
“Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.”

ACIM Workbook Lesson #88:
Review -- "The light has come." and "I am under no laws but God's"

At some point, I realized that a number of people whom I know rather well seem to be incapable of making decisions. They often need confirmation that their beliefs are worthy, and so they wait for someone else to tell them they think that way, too, and then they are comfortable enough to speak their opinion. This need for validation is not a rare condition. I believe I may have suffered from it at various times in my life. The tools we have at our disposal from the study and practice of divine metaphysics tend to let us walk past the temptation to feel so self-important that we're afraid to be wrong. While it's usually thought of as low self-esteem which causes this, it seems to me that it's valuing your own story over your true image in the likeness of God. Letting go many long-practiced ways of life facilitates our recognition of the light which has come, the Truth which is known within. And with the peaceful recognition of these things, we know the Truth which sets us free. This God-felt spiritual sense allows us to speak without fear. I love listening to divine Mind rather than chasing in circles with mortal mind! It's more interesting, it frees me from worry and doubt, it leads me in fascinating paths, it teaches peace.

Mary Baker Eddy quote:
"There is no material truth. The physical senses can take no cognizance of God and spiritual Truth. Human belief has sought out many inventions, but not one of them can solve the problem of being without  the divine Principle of divine Science. Deductions from material hypotheses are not scientific. They differ from real Science because they are not based on the divine law."

ACIM Workbook Lesson #76
“I am under no laws but God’s.”

A mere hundred years ago it's very possible that speaking the ideas we so freely discuss today could have brought us severe repercussions! Those who saw God in nature and celebrated that holiness were burned as witches. Even today, those who realize their power as a reflection of God are thought of as egotists (at the very least!) and perhaps shunned by their friends and family. What a delicious feeling it is to be able to say what we feel and to celebrate the Truth of our being! By putting into practice the laws of God, worlds which were before invisible appear to us with increasing frequency. Yes, when we say and do things which could be construed as other-worldly, we may be chastised in some minor ways -- perhaps simply looked at askance by friends -- but that's nothing compared to the tortures inflicted in centuries past. I thank every person who has raised their voice in honor of Truth, fearlessly righting misperceptions which had been interpreted as God's law. Many people try to change my mind about the path I've chosen to follow, hoping to save me from God's wrath. They are doing what they think best, and I have no animosity toward them. Living free of made-up rules allows us to see and accept the rule of Spirit. Without false laws we can hear what Love is saying to us, we can feel the joy that is ours, and we can know that God never takes, but only gives.

A Course in Miracles Lesson #172
Central Theme:
“God is but love and therefore so am I”
 Review of:
(153) “In my defenselessness my safety lies.”
(154) “I am among the ministers of God.”
Our central theme and two lesson reviews have been very helpful today while conversing with a friend who persistently referred to a situation as someone stabbing her in the heart and twisting a knife in her back. From past conversations, I knew she did not want me to verbalize what I was thinking in the face of her emotional distress. And so I didn't. But our central theme for this review, "God is love and so is everyone",  was what I held to throughout the conversation. And every time she comes to mind, I remember this profound truth. This is the essence of Christian Science prayer. This is also called "knowing the Truth" about a situation. This truth we are knowing is what we're learning more about every day. And that is also what keeps this study exciting and fresh: we will never know it all!! I love that this is an unfoldment of understanding and realization. There is no end goal. There is nothing I'd rather do than explore the metaphysics of the divine! It is applicable to every situation and there are no set rules to follow. The Principle of All that Is, that's our only governing parameter. What an adventure we have when living each moment as Love!

Mary Baker Eddy quote:
“Teach your student that he must know himself before he can know others and minister to human needs. Honesty is spiritual power.”
