Life's Synchronicity

Walking meditations, sitting meditations, music meditations, mantras, chants, drumming. Most of us practice some form of quieting the mind, some way of slipping into the gap between thoughts and experiencing inner knowing. The ability to visit this space at a moment's notice is integral in our ability to transcend the miasma of mortal, material thoughts which present themselves to us constantly. In many ways, we see the harmony evidenced by this way of living.  I love people's reactions to synchronicities! When something happens in perfect concourse with another event, creating wonderful circumstances for everyone and everything involved, we call this synchronicity. As an example, I once had an appointment for a haircut. I forgot about this appointment until a day past its time. I e-mailed my haircutter, apologizing and asking for another appointment. She responded that when she started reading the note her heart dropped because she had forgotten to tell me she needed to cancel the appointment due to a family emergency in another state, and then her heart lifted again because I hadn’t been there to find out she wasn’t! How's that for synchronicity? Some people don't see this as anything other than pure chance. Others think of it as supernatural and want to avoid it or, alternatively, to seek its return. Some of us see it as a natural way of life when listening past the roaring of material beliefs to the spiritual voice of Truth. Whatever our mode of listening to Spirit, let's do it as much as possible, until we realize that's all there is.

“The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the 'still, small voice' of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher. Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear,--this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. ‘Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.’”

Listening and Learning

ACIM Workbook Lesson #213
Central Theme: “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” Review: #193 “All things are lessons God would have me learn.”

I think most of us would agree that listening isn't always an easy task. Today I saw an example of a type of listening which is difficult to put into practice. My neighbor has a cat named Wyatt. This pretty feline goes outside regularly and returns when Jane whistles for him, but this afternoon he didn't return when she called. When it was starting to get dark and he still hadn't come home, she told her other cat, Doc, to "go find Wyatt", and then she listened to what Doc had to say. He went to a house up the street where no one lives, a house that is for sale. Doc went to the back door and stood there, looking from it to his person, who then called the realtor who has the house listed for sale. It turns out she had shown the property to a prospective buyer, and she drove back to our street to open the door. Sure enough, there was Wyatt inside the house. What a lovely demonstration of the power we possess when we're willing to listen and learn!

ACIM Workbook Lesson #155
“I will step back and let Him lead the way.”

I really try to let Truth lead the way in everything I do. For instance, today I was driving to the country to visit with friends. Before I left the house, I sat and quieted my thoughts and reminded myself to be open to guidance in all ways. By this, I mean everything, including slight variations in driving which would put my tires where they need to be, safe from any sharp rocks or nails. Now, I don't think about these details in particular, or that would be counter productive. I simply say something like, Let me be open to your thought. By silencing my plans and controlling tendencies, there is a protection at work because I'm listening. Today my dog took a tumble down a steep staircase. As he was rolling down, I began affirming to myself his safety -- and knowing the reason why. It's a simple shift from saying, Are you all right? to knowing, You ARE all right! I am very grateful.

"When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, 'I am hurt!' Your thought is more powerful than your words, more powerful than the accident itself, to make the injury real. Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All…" Science & Health Page 397:12-21

June 5, 2012 - "Baraka"

A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson #156
“I walk with God in perfect holiness.”

Allowing ourselves to be led is such a fun and exciting thing to do! One of the latest adventures in non-planning I've had has been in choosing a DVD at the library. Rather than read reviews, or ask friends, or even read the titles, I stand in front of the shelf and allow movies to call to me. The most recent DVD which jumped off the shelf is entitled, "Baraka". Oh my goodness! When I started watching this, I hadn't even read the cover. I only knew there was a photo of an eclipsed sun with its title. So it was very confusing when this film started and quickly skipped from what appeared to be Mongolian mountains to monks and priests deep in ritual, then moved to a beautiful baboon, with the most wonderfully expressive eyes, sitting in a hot, steaming pool of water. Adding to both my confusion and an attempt to attach no meaning to what I was seeing, there were no words to go with the mind-boggling glimpses into the lives of multitudes of people around the globe. At first I thought this film was not for the faint of heart, but by the end I had decided that all six billion of us would benefit by its viewing. This is the type of movie that will hit you where you need it! Towards the last of this smorgasbord, I had started to hum. I was om-ing in harmony with it, feeling oneness in a way I've not before experienced. I truly felt I was "walking with God in perfect holiness", along with everyone and everything. Another line from today's lesson reads, "As you step back, the light in you steps forward and encompasses the world." As I go through this day, my personal opinions will step back out of the way, allowing a perfect self to shine for the world. Bits and pieces of this beautiful movie will weave in and out of my daily doings, bringing deep reflection and a smile.
